Game Summaries for June 28, 2009

S.I. Pool Care 71, McCluskey Chevrolet 70 (OT)

James Millen made two free throws with 2.4 seconds remaining in overtime to give S.I. Pool Care a 71-70 win against McCluskey Chevrolet in the first game Sunday at the Deveroes Summer League at Woodward High School.

Millen did not score during regulation, but scored all four points of S.I. Pools Care's points in overtime in the final 10 seconds.

S.I. Pool Care was able to force overtime despite trailing by 14 points at halftime. S.I. Pool Care stilled trailed 67-65 after Ethan Faulkner hit a running bank shot from the right block for McCluskey Chevrolet with 2.9 seconds remaining in the second half. Charles Thompson missed a 3-pointer for S.I. Pool Care, but Greg Rice's put back just before the buzzer tied the score at 67.

Rice had 13 points during the second half comeback to finish with 18 for S.I. Pool Care. Thompson led S.I. Pool Care with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Mike Johnson added 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Walt Gibler scored 16 points, including all of McCluskey Chevrolet's points in overtime on a three-point play with 3.4 seconds left, to lead McCluskey. Corey Sorrell had 12 points and led McCluskey with eight rebounds and Faulkner had 10 points and three assists.

S.I. Pool Care (3-0) looks to stay atop the standings when it plays next in the final game Wednesday against Jackson All-Stars (1-2). McCluskey Chevrolet (2-2) is off until Saturday, July 11.


Jackson All-Stars 68, Clovernook Health Care 65

Miami (OH) graduate Carl Richberg broke a 63-63 with a basket in the final minute and finished with nine points and nine assists to lead Jackson All-Stars to its first win of the season, 68-65, against Clovernook Health Care Sunday.

Antonio Ballard led Jackson All-Stars with 18 points, the only player on the team to reach double figures in points. Allen Roberts matched Richberg with nine points while Tyler Dierkers and Rodney Haddix each scored eight points. Dierkers also had a team-high nine rebounds.

Brad Loesing led Clovernook Health Care with 17 points and four assists in his first game in the league, although his 3-point shot attempt to tie the score missed the mark at the buzzer. Brian Sellers had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Jason Miller scored 14 points.

Jackson All-Stars (1-2) plays against Wednesday in the final game of the night against S.I. Pool Care. Clovernook Health Care (0-4) is off until July 11.


SuperiorCars.com 74, John H. Flessa Law Office 73

Danny Horace scored 23 points and Vince Cook finished with a double-double as SuperiorCars.com held off John H. Flessa Law Office for a 74-73 win Sunday.

John H. Flessa Law Office had overcome a 41-32 halftime deficit to lead 72-69 with just over a minute remaining, but Deonta Vaughn tied the score with a 3-pointer, and Anthony McClain's dunk with 36.3 seconds remaining game SuperiorCars.com the lead for good.

John H. Flessa Law Office had two chances to tie or take the lead in the final 20 seconds, but Paul McMillan made only one of two free throws with 15.8 seconds remaining and his 3-point shot at the buzzer was no good.

McMillan matched Horace with a game-high 23 points. Darnell Wilkes scored 19 for John H. Flessa Law Office and Steve Steward had 10 points, three assists, and six rebounds.

Cook had 15 points and 11 rebounds for SuperiorCars.com, which also got 14 points from Vaughn and 11 from Fred Willis. McClain finished with four of SuperiorsCars.com's seven blocks in the game.

SuperiorCars.com (2-2) returned to action July 8 against Game Day Communications (2-1). John H. Flessa Law Office (0-3) also is off until July 8, when it plays SLATS (1-1).


OHC 79, SLATS 56

OHC opened the game on a 12-0 run and never looked back in continuing its undefeated start with a 79-56 rout of SLATS Sunday.

Lonnie Hayes had six points in the opening spurt, finishing the game with 18 points in eight-of-12 shooting. Kenny Satterfield drained six 3-pointers to score 22 points and lead OHC, which started the game with only five players. Norm Plummer added 17 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double and C. J. Anderson scored 19 points on seven-of-nine shooting.

OHC made 29-of-53 shots from the floor (54.7-percent), compared to 23-of-58 shooting (39.6-percent) from SLATS.

SLATS was led by 20 points, 10 rebounds and four assists from Dion Dixon. UC recruit Sean Kilpatrick was the only other SLATS player to reach double figures with 16 points.

OHC (4-0) is off this Wednesday and does not play against until July 8 against Jackson All-Stars (1-2). SLATS (1-1) plays in the second game Wednesday against Camp's Collision Center (2-2), scheduled to start 7:30.

Camp’s Collision Center 85, Game Day Communications 82

Camp's Collision Center held off a fierce Game Day Communications rally to pick up an 85-82 win in the final game Sunday of the Deveroes Summer League.

Camp's Collision Center lead by 26 points at halftime, 59-33, but a 15-0 run pulled Game Day Communications to within 77-75 with just under three minutes remaining in the game.

Cashmere Wright's dunk moments later further closed the gap to 81-80, but Wright could not convert a pair of shots in the final minute that would have given Game Day Communications the lead.

Wright led Game Day Communications with 21 points Pierre Darden had 19 points and 13 rebounds, Scottie Donald scored 16 points, and Jerome Nelson had 14 points and four assists.

Jamel McLean and Nick Wolf each scored 21 points for Camp's Collision Center, combining for 29 of their 42 points in the first half. Wolf also pulled down 10 rebounds for a double-double while McLean dished out five assists. Marcus Thompson added 17 points and Carl Claxton 10.

Game Day Communications (2-1) next plays in the first game Wednesday against Clovernook Health Care (0-4) at 6:30 p.m. Camp's Collision Center (2-2) play in the game that immediately follows against SLATS (1-1).
