Jason Love and Vince Cook each recorded double-doubles and SuperiorCars.com dominated Jackson All-Stars on the glass for an 82-71 win Sunday in the Deveroes Summer League at Woodward High School.
Love led SuperiorCars.com with 22 points and 14 rebounds while Cook finished with 20 points and 12 boards. Anthony McClain came within one rebound of another double-double, recording 11 points and nine rebounds, and Troy Tabler was just two rebounds away with 12 points and eight boards.
SuperiorCars.com finished with a 51-29 edge on the glass.
Rodney Haddix paced Jackson All-Stars with 21 points. Drew McGhee added 16 points and Drew Kelly had 13 points and a team-best nine rebounds.
Kelly made a 3-pointer that pulled Jackson All-Stars to within 72-71 late in the game, but SuperiorCars.com scored the game’s final 10 points in the final two minutes. Eddie Tyree was six for six from the foul line in that stretch, scoring 11 points in the game.
Both teams are off until Saturday. Jackson All-Stars (3-4) begins play on July 18 by facing John H. Flessa Law Office (3-3) at noon. SuperiorCars.com (5-2) plays in the game that follows against Camp’s Collision Center (4-3).
John H. Flessa Law Office 85, McCluskey Chevrolet 58
John H. Flessa used a pair of big runs to bury McCluskey Chevrolet, 85-58, and claim its third straight win.
Eddie Gray scored seven points during a 15-0 run in the fist half that turned a tie score into a 36-21 advantage for John H. Flessa Law Office, and Flessa ended the game on a 23-5 run.
Gray finished with 18 points. Paul McMillan had 28 points and 14 rebounds, both game-highs. Dwayne McNeal had nine points and 13 rebounds and Steve Steward finished with 10 points and nine boards as John H. Flessa Law Office out-rebounded McCluskey Chevrolet, 53-26.
McCluskey Chevrolet shot just 33.9-percent from 3-point range (11 for 39), making just thee of 17 (17.6-percent) from behind the arc in the first half.
Scott Bibbins led McCluskey Chevrolet with 17 points and Jon Van Hoose scored 12.
John H. Flessa Law Office (3-3) returns to the court in Wednesday’s first game against Clovernook Health Care (0-7) at 6:30 p.m. McCluskey Chevrolet (3-3) plays OHC (6-1) in the game that follows.
Camp’s Collision Center 95, S.I. Pool Care 92
Camp’s Collision Center made its final 15 free throws of the game, including eight in the final minute, to send S.I. Pool Care to its third straight loss, 95-92.
Greg Davis had four of the free throws down the stretch, scoring 11 points despite making just one shot from the floor. Jamel McLean led Camp’s Collision Center with 24 points, making seven of nine from the charity stripe, followed by 22 points by Marcus Thompson and 21 from Nick Wolf. Wolf also pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Darren Goodsen, the league’s leader in scoring average, led S.I. Pool Care with 24 points. Jamual Warren scored 19 points and dished out six assists. Charles Thompson scored 17 points and led S.I. Pool Care with seven rebounds, while Jordan Bazile also scored 17.
Camp’s Collision Center (4-3) is off Wednesday, next playing Saturday against SuperiorCars.com (5-2) at approximately 1 p.m. S.I. Pool Care (3-3) will attempt to put a halt to its losing streak against SLATS (2-4) in Wednesday’s final game, to start at approximately 8:30 p.m.
OHC 78, Game Day Communications 75
Jordan Crawford scored all seven points for OHC in overtime, including a dunk in the final minute that pushed OHC to a 78-75 win against Game Day Communications.
The game had a Crosstown Shootout feel, with Cashmere Wright, Armein Kirkland, and Steve Toyloy all having UC connections for Game Day Communications and Mark Lyons, Adrion Graves, C. J. Anderson and Crawford all having XU ties.
Crawford also had OHC’s final seven points in regulation, but Cashmere Wright was able to send the game to overtime with his only 3-pointer of the game with two seconds remaining in the second half.
Wright added a lay up in overtime that put Game Day Communications ahead 75-74 with 1:20 remaining, but Crawford’s dunk put OHC back ahead with 32 second remaining, and his lay up at the buzzer set the final score after Scottie Donald had missed a 3-pointer.
Crawford led OHC with 20 points, followed by 19 from Norman Plummer. Mark Lyons added 17 points and C.J. Anderson finished with 10.
Donald led Game Day Communications with 17 points, making three of six 3-pointers. Wright scored 14 points, including nine of Game Day Communication’s final 14 points. Wright also had five assists. Steve Toyloy recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 points.
OHC (6-1) plays again in Wednesday’s second game, to start at about 7:30 p.m. against McCluskey Chevrolet (3-3). Game Day Communications (4-3) is off until Saturday’s final game against S.I. Pool Care (3-3).
SLATS 89, Clovernook Health Care 81
Yancey Gates scored 10 points in the final five minutes as SLATS eliminated Clovernook Health Care from postseason consideration with an 89-81 win.
Clovernook Health Care looked poised for its first win of the season after Brian Sellers’ dunk gave it a 73-69 lead with 5:22 remaining, but SLATS scored 20 of the game’s final 28 points to pull out the win.
Gates finished with 15 points, while Sean Kilpatrick led SLATS with 28 points and three steals. Justin Orr followed with 16 points in his first appearance while David Harris had 12 points in his second game.
Terrell Holloway led Clovernook with 30 points and five assists, also matching Sellers and Brad Loesing with a team-high six rebounds. Sellers had 18 points, Tim Barnes 15, and Loesing 13.
SLATS (2-4) plays S.I. Pool Care (3-3) in its next game, Wednesday at approximately 8:30 p.m. Clovernook Health Care (0-7) will continue to look for its first win against John H. Flessa Law Office (3-3) in the first game Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
