Game Summaries for June 28, 2009

S.I. Pool Care 71, McCluskey Chevrolet 70 (OT)

James Millen made two free throws with 2.4 seconds remaining in overtime to give S.I. Pool Care a 71-70 win against McCluskey Chevrolet in the first game Sunday at the Deveroes Summer League at Woodward High School.

Millen did not score during regulation, but scored all four points of S.I. Pools Care's points in overtime in the final 10 seconds.

S.I. Pool Care was able to force overtime despite trailing by 14 points at halftime. S.I. Pool Care stilled trailed 67-65 after Ethan Faulkner hit a running bank shot from the right block for McCluskey Chevrolet with 2.9 seconds remaining in the second half. Charles Thompson missed a 3-pointer for S.I. Pool Care, but Greg Rice's put back just before the buzzer tied the score at 67.

Rice had 13 points during the second half comeback to finish with 18 for S.I. Pool Care. Thompson led S.I. Pool Care with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Mike Johnson added 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Walt Gibler scored 16 points, including all of McCluskey Chevrolet's points in overtime on a three-point play with 3.4 seconds left, to lead McCluskey. Corey Sorrell had 12 points and led McCluskey with eight rebounds and Faulkner had 10 points and three assists.

S.I. Pool Care (3-0) looks to stay atop the standings when it plays next in the final game Wednesday against Jackson All-Stars (1-2). McCluskey Chevrolet (2-2) is off until Saturday, July 11.


Jackson All-Stars 68, Clovernook Health Care 65

Miami (OH) graduate Carl Richberg broke a 63-63 with a basket in the final minute and finished with nine points and nine assists to lead Jackson All-Stars to its first win of the season, 68-65, against Clovernook Health Care Sunday.

Antonio Ballard led Jackson All-Stars with 18 points, the only player on the team to reach double figures in points. Allen Roberts matched Richberg with nine points while Tyler Dierkers and Rodney Haddix each scored eight points. Dierkers also had a team-high nine rebounds.

Brad Loesing led Clovernook Health Care with 17 points and four assists in his first game in the league, although his 3-point shot attempt to tie the score missed the mark at the buzzer. Brian Sellers had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Jason Miller scored 14 points.

Jackson All-Stars (1-2) plays against Wednesday in the final game of the night against S.I. Pool Care. Clovernook Health Care (0-4) is off until July 11.


SuperiorCars.com 74, John H. Flessa Law Office 73

Danny Horace scored 23 points and Vince Cook finished with a double-double as SuperiorCars.com held off John H. Flessa Law Office for a 74-73 win Sunday.

John H. Flessa Law Office had overcome a 41-32 halftime deficit to lead 72-69 with just over a minute remaining, but Deonta Vaughn tied the score with a 3-pointer, and Anthony McClain's dunk with 36.3 seconds remaining game SuperiorCars.com the lead for good.

John H. Flessa Law Office had two chances to tie or take the lead in the final 20 seconds, but Paul McMillan made only one of two free throws with 15.8 seconds remaining and his 3-point shot at the buzzer was no good.

McMillan matched Horace with a game-high 23 points. Darnell Wilkes scored 19 for John H. Flessa Law Office and Steve Steward had 10 points, three assists, and six rebounds.

Cook had 15 points and 11 rebounds for SuperiorCars.com, which also got 14 points from Vaughn and 11 from Fred Willis. McClain finished with four of SuperiorsCars.com's seven blocks in the game.

SuperiorCars.com (2-2) returned to action July 8 against Game Day Communications (2-1). John H. Flessa Law Office (0-3) also is off until July 8, when it plays SLATS (1-1).


OHC 79, SLATS 56

OHC opened the game on a 12-0 run and never looked back in continuing its undefeated start with a 79-56 rout of SLATS Sunday.

Lonnie Hayes had six points in the opening spurt, finishing the game with 18 points in eight-of-12 shooting. Kenny Satterfield drained six 3-pointers to score 22 points and lead OHC, which started the game with only five players. Norm Plummer added 17 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double and C. J. Anderson scored 19 points on seven-of-nine shooting.

OHC made 29-of-53 shots from the floor (54.7-percent), compared to 23-of-58 shooting (39.6-percent) from SLATS.

SLATS was led by 20 points, 10 rebounds and four assists from Dion Dixon. UC recruit Sean Kilpatrick was the only other SLATS player to reach double figures with 16 points.

OHC (4-0) is off this Wednesday and does not play against until July 8 against Jackson All-Stars (1-2). SLATS (1-1) plays in the second game Wednesday against Camp's Collision Center (2-2), scheduled to start 7:30.

Camp’s Collision Center 85, Game Day Communications 82

Camp's Collision Center held off a fierce Game Day Communications rally to pick up an 85-82 win in the final game Sunday of the Deveroes Summer League.

Camp's Collision Center lead by 26 points at halftime, 59-33, but a 15-0 run pulled Game Day Communications to within 77-75 with just under three minutes remaining in the game.

Cashmere Wright's dunk moments later further closed the gap to 81-80, but Wright could not convert a pair of shots in the final minute that would have given Game Day Communications the lead.

Wright led Game Day Communications with 21 points Pierre Darden had 19 points and 13 rebounds, Scottie Donald scored 16 points, and Jerome Nelson had 14 points and four assists.

Jamel McLean and Nick Wolf each scored 21 points for Camp's Collision Center, combining for 29 of their 42 points in the first half. Wolf also pulled down 10 rebounds for a double-double while McLean dished out five assists. Marcus Thompson added 17 points and Carl Claxton 10.

Game Day Communications (2-1) next plays in the first game Wednesday against Clovernook Health Care (0-4) at 6:30 p.m. Camp's Collision Center (2-2) play in the game that immediately follows against SLATS (1-1).

Game Summaries for June 27, 2009

McCLUSKEY CHEVROLET 85, CLOVERNOOK HEALTH CARE 50

McCluskey Chevrolet raced out to a 9-0 lead to start the game, cruising to an 85-50 victory against Clovernook Health Care in the opening game of Saturday's action at the Deveroes Summer League at Woodward High School.

Tony Rack had two 3-pointers during the opening spurt, finishing the game with six triples and a team-high 18 points. Brad Hosler added 16 points with nine rebounds, as six of the seven players to take the floor for McCluskey reached double-figures in points.

McCluskey also shot 64-percent from the floor in the game (32-for-50), and dominated the second half by outscoring Clovernook, 42-16.

Jason Miller, a Columbia graduate, led all scorers by scoring 20 points and pulling down 12 rebounds for Clovernook. Brad Sellers had 10 points for Clovernook, and Wimpy Woods contributed five assists.

The win was the second straight for McCluskey Chevrolet (2-1), which opens up Sunday's action at Woodward by taking on undefeated S.I. Pool Care (2-0) at noon. Clovernook (0-3) will look for its first win when it faces Jackson All-Stars (0-2) in the game that follows at approximately 1 p.m.


S.I. POOL CARE 96, SUPERIORCARS.COM 93 (OT)

Greg Rice tipped in a basket mid-way through overtime to put S.I. Pool Care ahead for good in its 96-93 win against SuperiorCars.com Saturday at Woodward.

Rice, a Covington Holmes graduate who now attends Cincinnati State, had four of his tournament-high 32 points in overtime. Mike Johnson and Charles Thompson each contributed 14 points for S.I. Pool Care, with Thompson leading the team with eight boards.

Deonta Vaughn missed the first half for SuperiorCars.com, but managed to score the final four points of regulation to force the overtime. Vaughn's basket with 31.7 seconds remaining pulled SuperiorCars.com to within 88-86, and he scored another basket with 14.6 seconds remaining after S.I. Pool Care missed a pair of free throws.

Rice had a chance to win the game in regulation, but Fred Willis blocked his shot attempt in the final moments to preserve the tie.

Willis scored 19 points to match former Miami RedHawk Danny Horace. Horace also pulled down 12 rebounds for a double-double. Ohio University graduate Bubba Walther drained five 3-pointers in scoring 17 points for SuperiorCars.com, while Vince Cook had 14.

S.I. Pool Care (2-0) puts its undefeated record on the line noon Sunday against McCluskey Chevrolet (2-1). SuperiorCars.com (1-2) will play John H. Flessa Law Office (0-2) 2 p.m. Sunday.


OHC 99, CAMP'S COLLISION CENTER 89

OHC overcame a halftime deficit to remain undefeated with a 99-89 win against Camp's Collision Center Saturday at Woodward.

OHC used a 22-10 run over a six-minute span in the second half to turn a 69-65 deficit into an 87-79 advantage it would not relinquish.

Xavier University transfer Jordan Crawford had 10 of his game-high 28 points during that span. Norman Plummer added 20 points on eight-of-12 shooting as OHC shot 60.7-percent from the floor (37-for-61). XU graduate C. J. Anderson helped OHC to a commanding 38-23 advantage on the boards, pulling down 10 rebounds.

Camp's Collision Center, which played with just six players and was without several key players, got 26 points from Johnny Wolf and 12 from Marcus Thompson. Nick Wolf added 13 points and Camp's Jordan Crawford, a freshman at Bowling Green, scored 12 points.

OHC (3-0) plays SLATS (1-0) 3 p.m. Sunday. Camp's Collision Center (1-2) will take on Game Day Communications (2-0) in the final game on Sunday, scheduled for 4 p.m.


GAME DAY COMMUNICATIONS 72, JOHN H. FLESSA LAW OFFICE 64

UC sophomore Cashmere Wright led Game Day Communications to its second straight win, 72-64, against John H. Flessa Law Office Saturday at Woodward.

Wright had 23 points to lead Game Day Communications, including a pair of 3-pointers. Armein Kirkland had three 3-pointers an 11 points for Game Day Communications, and Scottie Donald chipped in with 10 points.

Former XU guard Gary Lumpkin scored all six of his points during a 13-0 second half run that put Game Day Communications ahead to stay, 56-48.

John H. Flessa was able to pull to within 64-61 on a 3-pointer from Steve Steward with 1:51 remaining, but never got any closer.

Paul McMillian led John H. Flessa with 25 points. Dewayne McNeal had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, and DeAngelo Dean scored 11.

Game Day Communications (2-0) concludes Sunday's action again Camp's Collision Center (1-2). John H. Flessa Law Office (0-2) plays SuperiorCars.com (1-2) at approximately 2 p.m.


SLATS 90, JACKSON ALL-STARS 85 (OT)

Yancy Gates outscored Jackson All-Stars by himself in overtime as Slats won its first game at the Deveroes Summer League, 90-85, against Jackson All-Stars.
Gates, a UC sophomore, scored six points in overtime to finish with 24 points. Sean Kilpatrick, an incoming freshman to UC, matched Gates with 24 points and Dion Dixon scored 22.

Dixon hit a pair of free throws with 4.8 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game to overtime.

Jackson All-Stars was led by Rodney Haddix's 23 points and eight rebounds. Drew Kelley had 19 points and Drew McGhee 13. Carl Richberg had six assists and two steals to go with his five points.

Jackson All-Stars (0-2) faced Clovernook Health Care (0-3) in the second game on Sunday. SLATS (1-0) takes on OHC (3-0) at approximately 3 p.m. in a game of undefeated teams.

Summary of Sunday, June 21, 2009

SUPERIORCARS.COM 72, MCCLUSKEY CHEVROLET 69

Bubba Walther sank a 3-pointer with 1:40 remaining to break a 64-64 tie, and SuperiorCars.com held off McCluskey Chevrolet the rest of the way for a 72-69 win in the opening game of the Deveroes Summer League Sunday at Woodward High School.

Walther, who attended Ohio University, scored 18 points for SuperiorCars.com, making 5-of-10 3-pointers in the game.
UC junior Deonta Vaughn led SuperiorCars.com with 21 points. Vaughn had two threes and a pair of assists in the early going as SuperiorCars.com opened up a 20-7 lead to start the game.

McCluskey answered with a 20-6 run to take the lead, but Vaughn scored five of his 15first-half points in the final minute to put SuperiorCars.com back on top, 37-34, at the break.

Led by 28 points from Dennis Gagai, including 16 in the second half, McCluskey surged ahead, 59-53, before Dante Jackson concluded an 11-0 run with a dunk and a lay up to put SuperiorCars.com back on top, 64-59.

The final of Gagai’s eight 3-pointers tied the score at 64, but McCluskey was unable to comeback after Walther’s shot broke the tie.

XU sophomore Dante Jackson scored 17 points and had five steals for SuperiorCars.com, while Evan Yates pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds.
Scott Bibbins scored 15 points to finish second on McCluskey behind Gagai’s 28. Tony Rack and Corey Sorrell scored 11 points apiece for McCluskey, which made 15-of-31 (48.4-percent) of its 3-pointers.

The McCluskey team (0-1), primarily made up of Northern Kentucky University players, next plays in the final game Wednesday night against Camp’s Collision Center (1-0), scheduled to tip at 8:30. SuperiorCars.com (1-0) faces OHC (1-0) in the second game Wednesday, scheduled for 7:30 p.m.


CAMP’S COLLISION CARE 74, CLOVERNOOK HEALTH CARE 61

Greg Howard came off the bench to score 10 points in the second half as Camp’s Collision Center knocked off Clovernook Health Care, 74-61.

Camps led just 29-27 at halftime, but Howard scored the first six points of the second half and Camps went on to outscore Clovernook, 45-34, after the break.
Bowling Green recruit Danny McElroy led Camps with 14 points, making 7-of-10 shots from the floor. Xavier sophomore Jamel McLean followed with 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting.

Camps made 31-of-60 shots as a team (51.7-percent)
Jason Miller paced Clovernook with 17 points and seven rebounds, connecting on three 3-pointers. Jerontate Hunter followed with 13 points, making all three treys he attempted in the game. Miller and Hunter combined to go 11-for-18 from the floor, but the rest of the Clovernook team made just 12-of-44 shots.

Camp’s (1-0) takes on McCluskey Chevrolet (0-1) in the final game Wednesday night. Clovernook (0-1) will take on S.I. Pool Care (0-0) in the first game, which tips off 6:30 Wednesday night at Woodward.

GAME DAY COMMUNICATIONS 73, JACKSON ALL-STARS 63

The UC tandem of Cashmere Wright and Armein Kirkland combined to lead Game Day Communications to a 73-63 win against Jackson All-Stars.

Wright, a freshman, finished with game highs of 24 points and five rebounds while Kirkland, who last played for the Bearcats in the 2005-06 season, recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Allan Ballard scored 11 points in the first half to help Jackson All-Stars to a 37-36 halftime lead, and his 3-pointer tied the score at 56 with just under four minutes remaining, but Game Day closed out the game on a 17-7 run.

Ballard was one of five Jackson All-Star players to reach double figures. Rodney Haddix led the team with 15 points, while Allen Payne had 12 and Carl Richburg and Orlando Williams 11 each. Payne also grabbed 10 boards to finish with a double-double.

Game Day Communications (1-0) takes Wednesday off before taking on John H. Flessa Law Office (0-1) in the third game Saturday, scheduled for 3 p.m. Jackson All-Stars’ next game is against Slats in the final game Saturday, immediately following the Game Day-John H. Flessa game.


OHC 70, JOHN H. FLESSA LAW OFFICE 60

OHC ran out to a 29-11 lead to start the game and never looked back in defeating John H. Flessa Law Office, 70-60.

Adrion Graves scored eight points during the opening run on his way to leading OHC with 20 points. Graves made 8-of-9 shots in the game, including 3-of-4 3-pointers, as OHC shot 50.9-percent (28-for-55) as a team.

Norman Plummer added 11 points for OHC, and C.J. Anderson contributed eight points and eight rebounds.

Deonta Byrd made three 3-pointers during a 16-5 run that enabled John H. Flessa to pull to within four points, 37-33, late in the first half, but John H. Flessa never got any closer.

Paul McMillan came up with seven points during a 14-2 that pulled John H. Flessa to within 59-54 with 4:40 remaining, but OHC came out of a timeout with six straight points to regain control of the game.

McMillan led all scorers with 25 points. Byrd added 12, and XU freshman Kenny Frease grabbed 15 rebounds.

OHC (1-0) will take on SuperiorCars.com (1-0) in the second game Wednesday night, scheduled for 7:30, in the only match up of two of Sunday’s winners. John H. Flessa Law Office (0-1) does not play again until approximately 3 p.m. Saturday against Game Day Communications (1-0).
